We must return , however , to the landscape , which I susggest is the result of  a compromise  between wilderness and cultivation , Nature and Man . One reason for this is that it contains that exquisite balance between Nature and Man .We see a cornfield and a cottage , both solid evidences of man’s presence . But notice how these things , in the middle of the scene , are surrounded by witnesses to that ancient England that was all nearly forest and heath . The fence and gate are man-made , but are not severely regular and trim ——as they would be in some other countries . The trees and hedges ,  the grass and wild flowers in the

foreground , all suggest that Nature has not been forced  into obedience . Even the cottage , which has an irregularity and colouring that make it fit snugly into the landscape .

不过我们还是得回到景色中来，也就是回到我所说的***、造物和人类的协调产物中来。我这么说的一个原因是***包含着人与自然的微妙的平衡。我们见过麦田和农舍，两者都是人类存在的像征。然而要注意的是这些处于中心的景物是被那些***、森林和旷野包围着的。篱笆和门窗是人工制造的，但不像其他的国家那样精巧考究。***空地上的树林、矮树从、芳草野花都表明自然并没有被迫屈从于人类。即便是农舍，也由于外形***、色彩斑斓而与周围的景色融为一体。
